There is a large difference between your mid 20s and your early 40s, usually life has happened. This may mean a full time career, a kid or two (or more?) and a lot less time for you.
Because life happens and we get busy with more and more responsibilities sometimes we might let our bodies slip a bit. If you are ready to change that then there is tremendous news! Not so fun Fact: If you eat one cookie a day (~100Kcal) then you will gain about 10 pounds per year, so for every 100 calories you eat in excess of what you burn fat still start growing consistently but slowly over time. This lies the major problem into how it creeps up on us.
It’s like going broke, slowly at first then all at once.
