This time of year is different, from Thanksgiving through New Years we are surrounded by food and sugary treats and the chilly winter weather makes it difficult to exercise. A surplus of food and lack of physical activity is a recipe for disaster when it comes to staying in shape. Here are a few tips I have to help you keep that holiday weight off!

Tip #1 : Have a Fitness Plan

While holidays are known lots of food and watching football games with the family on the couch, have a game plan going forward. Track your food intake and physical movement with a calories tracking app like My Fitness Pal. Doing so will make you more aware of what you are pulling into your body. Tracking calories can help you choose low calories options or opt for smaller portion sizes.

Tip #2: Exercise Early

The holidays are busy enough as it is, finding time to workout during the day can be downright impossible. Wake up half an hour early and get your workout out of the way first thing in the morning. This will make you feel energized and productive right off the bat, plus it's easy to forget about working out when we get wrapped in our day with family events and holiday parties.

Tip #3: Indulge but not Often

Holidays are a time for family, freinds, and food....LOTS of food. It's ok to have a treat here and there but don't make it a habit. Leftovers after parties can be split up into containers and given out to the guests as they leave. This will prevent your fridge from becoming over run with holiday treats.Holidays don't have to be a time for weight gain and lazyness. You have the power to take control of your holiday habits and stay fit this holiday season.
