Apollo Neuro Review - how Apollo helped my social anxiety

Apollo Neuro is a wearable that focuses on an area that is often overlooked: stress. As someone diagnosed with generalized and social anxiety, wearable with the exclusive focus on stress and reducing anxiety was a dream come true.

My one real question was, “Does Apollo Neuro actually work?”

This is why you are reading this article, isn’t it?

I contacted the Apollo team to see if they would be interested in loaning a sample for me to test and review. Here we are, let’s dive right in!

What is Apollo Neuro?

Apollo uses sound waves you can’t hear. You can still feel a vibration for balancing the nervous system and the body’s response to stress.

The goal of this new wearable is to help your body improve its resilience to stress.

Apollo aims to improve:

  • HRV
  • Focus
  • Sleep
  • Physical recovery
  • Promote Calmness

Science Behind Apollo

The first thing I was interested in when I learned about Apollo was the science behind the product. The idea of a wearable that can reduce stress and help with anxiety throughout the day was a dream come true.

Apollo was developed by physicians and neuroscientists. It originated from research at the University of Pittsburgh from the work of Drs. David Rabin, MD, Ph.D., and Greg Siegle, Ph.D. They worked to develop and scientifically prove the technology behind Apollo.

The fundamental discovery was that combinations of particular low frequency inaudible loud waves can safely and reliable impact on how people feel. These sound waves are not audible. You can not hear the sounds waves, but you can feel them. By responding to these through our sense of touch, the physiological changes can be measured almost real-time.

How does Apollo work?

It works by sending gentle vibrations to improve your heart rate variability and help your body recover from stress. Here is a simple 3-step explanation of how Apollo works:

Step 1. You experience stress, and your nervous system responded. This can include increased heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure. It can leave you feeling distracted, nervous, anxious, overwhelmed, and even make it difficult to sleep.

Step 2. Apollo detects this response in the body and uses “touch therapy,” felt as gentle waves of vibration against your skin. These waves stimulate the ““rest and digest” parasympathetic nervous response and restore balance to the body.”

Step 3. When Apollo is used consistently and over time, it can retrain your nervous system to help it manage stress effectively and efficiently on its own. Some benefits of using Apollo over time are improved sleep, improved focus, and an overall feeling of being more “balanced.”

How does Apollo feel?

Apollo vibrations will feel like waves, and it will feel natural. The wearable matched the “natural oscillation pattern between our heart and our lungs when we deep breathe,” which has improved HRV in lab trials.

We encounter stress every day. Stress can come from our environment, relationships, work, family, dramatic events, and merely living our day-to-day life.

Our body responds to stress by increasing the heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.

On the flip side, when we are clam, the heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure are at a comfortable resting rate.

It’s important to notes that Apollo does NOT track your biometrics. Instead, it actively improves them.

How is heart rate variability related to stress?

Heart rate variability (HRV) is a critical biometric of stress. Chronic stress activates the “fight-or-flight” response of the nervous system. Apollos detects this and counters by activating the parasympathetic “rest and digest” response.

HRV measures the rate of change of the heartbeat over a set period. A high HRV is good and means that your body can quickly recover from stress.

Cons

Not waterproof!!! Ok. I really hope that if there is an improved model that comes out one day it will be waterproof! It is so easy for me to forget that I am wearing it on my ankle... and I live on the beach... and sometimes I have really close calls when I take my dog for a walk on the beach and almost get hit by waves!

This happened to me yesterday!

We had huge waves, Apollo was on my ankle (I forgot about it) and a wave rushed in - I had water up to my knees!!

I thought it was for sure broken but by some miracle, it still works!

How to Use Apollo?

Step 1: Put it on your wrist or ankle
You can wear Apollo on your wrist or on your ankle. They say that makes people find it best to use it on the ankle. I really like that this is an option because many of us (myself included) already have wearables like the Apple Watch that we wear on our wrists.

Step 2: Select a mode from the app.
The Apollo app is available on both iPhone and Android. There are 7 different modes to choose from. Each is designed to help you achieve other goals for your body and mind.

Download the Apollo app from the App store or google play store. It will give you a tour of Apollo and how to get started.

Apollo Modes

Apollo has different modes, and each setting is backed by strong research and scientific studies.

Here are the different modes and the science behind each mode:

Energy and Wake Up: For morning use or when energy is needed. Used to improve attention and wakefulness by using vibrations known to generally elevate the heart rate and combine them with vibrations known to enhance physical and mental stress recovery.

Social and Open: For socializing and networking. To improve recovery and HRV while increasing energy levels and a sense of clam. Basically, when you would like to feel both energized and also at ease.

Clear and Focused: Used for creative work and athletic/cognitive performance. The vibrations used have been shown to improve HRV ad to lower the heart rate under stress.

Rebuild and recover: Often used to help revoker from physical strain, including exercise, mental, emotional stress, or feeling down.

Meditation and Mindfulness: Used to help the mind and body relax and ease into deeper meditation states. Or for relief from persistence soreness and tension.

Relax and Unwind: Used to unwind before sleep.

Sleep and Renew: Used to help promote falling alley easily.

Reviews and Testimonials

After reading hundreds of reviews all over the internet, it’s clear that Apollo has improved so many people’s lives.

Some people have done extreme monitoring of HRV by using other wearables at the same time to track the data on how Apollo is working.

Different people have simply just noticed a massive improvement in their sleep quality and sleep cycles.

My Experience:

The primary reason I was interested in Apollo was that people reported that Apollo Neuro was very helpful with lowering anxiety.

Specifically, social anxiety that I have struggling with for years.

Getting started with Apollo was very easy. The app I downloaded to my iPhone helped guide the setup process. It was very helpful that Apollo Neuro also came with a guide reference guide of when to use the different modes throughout the day and for how long.

I prefer to wear Apollo on my ankle. The strap is soft, comfortable, and stretchy. It's comfortable to the point that I often forget I'm wearing it! The strap is velcro and strong - I have never had it lose, even while sleeping.
Another reason I like that I can wear it on my ankle is that I wear an apple watch already.
The first time I really noticed how well it worked what during a video call with a potential client.

I always get very nervous in social environments, video calls included. And it comes across as such.

I had the "Social" mode before and during the interview and it made a world of a difference.

I was impressed with how smoothly the conversation went.

I didn't feel anxious at all - I was calm and relaxed and it was incredible!

The "Social" mode is my favorite and most helpful for my anxiety.

I also use it to help me sleep every night and it's been amazing in that aspect too.

But I'm so impressed with how much it helped with my social anxiety. It's changed the way I feel in social environments and I hope that if it can be as helpful to you!!

Wishing you love and happiness,
