Primo Smoothie – Best Meal Replacement Shake for an Active Lifestyle?
Some of the reasons people turn to meal replacement shake include a busy schedule, medical issues, supplemental nutrition, or just for the convenience.
Field Work Nutrition Co. is a relatively new brand in the meal replacement industry, but they have a lot of offer with their line of premium shakes. Their range of healthy and nutritious shake powders are geared towards athletes, and people with an active lifestyle.
In this review, I will walk you through everything you need to know about Field Work Nutrition’s Primo Smoothie, including its nutritional value, taste profile, and my own experience, and recipes!
What is the Primo Smoothie?
Field Work Nutrition’s Primo Smoothie is a protein-rich shake that is formulated to give you clean, complete nutrition and the fuel your body needs to thrive.
The focus of this shake is the number of healthy indents that make it such a nutritious meal replacement shake. The Primo Smoothie mix has the ingredients and protein requirements to help you build a lean and toned body. The Primo Smoothie is great for:
- A quick and healthy breakfast
- Pre-workout fuel
- Post workout recovery
Ingredients and Nutrition
One thing I thought was interesting about Primo Smoothie was that is had some ingredients that you would not usually see in meal replacement shakes. Such as tart cherry and curcumin.
The best way to give you an idea on just how nutritious this meal replacement shake can be for your overall health is to go over the benefits of the ingredients.
Supplement Facts: Each serving (2 scoops) has 200 calories and 20 grams of Grass-Fed protein. It also has 5 grams of fat and 18 grams of complex carbohydrates. One thing that is awesome about the ingredients in the Primo Smoothie powder is that each serving only has 4 grams of sugar and no added sugars.
Vitamins: The Primo Smoothie packs in a lot of vitamins into the shake! Each serving has 60% of the daily recommended Magnesium, 150% Iron, and a whopping 250% of your daily recommenced ed Vitamin D intake.
These essential vitamins and minerals are needed by your body to give you energy. Other essential vitamins and minerals you will find in this shake include Vitamin C, A, E, Calcium, Sodium, and Potassium.
20g Clean Dairy Protein: The protein content is high which is perfect for helping your body build lean muscle and recover from workouts. The protein is sourced from clean grass-fed whet and milk protein. This is essential for helping maintain, develop and recover muscles.
Carb Complex: Primo Smoothie has 8 grams of quality “good” carbohydrates sourced from sweet potatoes, organic oats, organic chia, organic millet, and organic quinoa.
Field Work Nutrition currently offers two flavor options Vanilla and Cacao.
If you are unsure of what flavor you will like the best, you can get the “Try Pack” of each flavor.
You can get creative with the way you make your Primo Smoothie. I feel like the Vanilla flavor would be better for fruit-based smoothies, but that is just my personal taste.
One thing I love about the FieldWorks Primo Smoothie is the low sugar and zero added sugar. It makes the end result taste natural and not super sweet like many other meal replacement shakes.
You can add this shake powder to any smoothie, and they have tons of recipe ideas you can reference online and use for inspiration to create your own. This makes it easy to create a smoothie that fits your taste preferences.
You do have to blend it. Otherwise, it doesn’t mix well, and the powder gets clumpy. However, when you do blend it, the texture is very light and fluffy, and it stays mixed rather than settling at the bottom of your cup.
Pros & Cons
Reviews and Testimonials
- Great natural flavor and not too sweet
- You can mix it with any ingredients to create your own flavors in the smoothie
- Primo Smoothie has nutrition and ingredients that many other protein shakes do not
- Great source of energy and filling without the calories
- Perfect for a nutritious breakfast
I had a hard time finding negative reviews and this could be in part because it’s a newer company/ product. The only “negative” thing someone had to say was that it didn’t have enough of a flavor to be blended with water. Which isn’t a real “negative”, the directions clearly state this shake is meant to be blended in your smoothie, not mixed with plain water.
I’ve been drinking Primo Smoothie after working out and even as just a quick meal replacement shake when I’m short on time (or lazy). It’s been perfect for an early afternoon nutritional energy boost.
I find it filling and easy on the digestive system. I’ve had other meal replacement shakes that end up being too sweet, and they had made me feel like it was just weighing me down and causing bloating in my stomach.
I love how versatile Primo Smoothie is! I can change up the recipe and try different ingredients. It’s great not having to drink the same dull flavor over and over again!
This is also why I think this is a meal replacement shake that most people will love to drink – the taste and flavor profile can be totally customized to fit your taste buds.
I’ll share with you my favorite recipe using the Primo Smoothie Cocoa Flavor. This is my favorite Breakfast/ post workout smoothie. It’s high in protein and I find it very filling!
Peanut Butter Protein Power Smoothie:
1 Cup Organic Almond Milk
2 Scoops Primo Smoothie Cacao Mix
1 Tbs Peanut Butter
5-10 Ice Cubes
Optional for Extra Flavors/ Sweetness:
1/4 Tsp Ground Cinnamon (Optional)
1 Tsp Honey (Optional)
You can use the ingredients you like to create a tasty and enjoyable meal replacement shake!

Summary – Is this the best meal replacement shake for you?
The Primo Smoothie is geared toward those who are highly active or endurance athlete. The high amount of iron and vitamin E in each serving would be necessary for people who have a very sedentary lifestyle.
This is also an overall great choice for a nutritional supplement shake if you are looking to develop healthy habits. It can help you build lean muscles after a workout and fill in those nutritional gaps in your diet!
Ingredients: The Primo Smoothie had a high focus on the quality of ingredients included in the shake and is all natural. It is an excellent source of protein and has the vitamins, minerals, and nutrition that are perfect for those with an active lifestyle.
Nutrition: It has 200 calories per serving. It has a great nutritional profile to help fill in gaps in your diet. The high protein content is perfect for those with an active lifestyle that are looking to build and maintain lean, toned muscles. However, the carb content could be a little higher to be a true meal replacement shake, especially since the focus for this shake is on athletes.
Taste: There are two flavor options: Vanilla or Cocao. This powder is intended to be added to a smoothie and blended. Therefore you have unlimited possibilities of different smoothie recipes you can add it too. It’s not too sweet, and I find it has a smooth flavor profile.
Price/Value: The Price per serving can come down to $2.70. This is pricier compared to the average shake but it also has ingredients that many other shakes do not, and it is more nutritious than many other shakes.
