Steps to Make a Home Gym

Setting up a home gym in simple, easy and affordable. Some people prefer to workout in the comfort and privacy of their own home. Setting up your own home gym can save you time (from going to a gym or fitness center) and money (no monthly membership fees). Here are a few simple steps that you can take to build you very own home gym.

Step 1: Find the Space

You want to find the right space to dedicate to your home gym. Perhaps a spare bedroom or unused office? Any extra space can be converted to a gym. If you don't have a spare room than you can also use a small area in your home (like a area of the living room).

Step 2: Clear and Decorate

When you find your area, keep in mind that it is best to workout in a bright and well lit area. If you are dedicating a whole room than think about painting the room a bright and vibrant color. If you don't have a well lit area, then consider adding light from laps. You can find light sources that mimic natural lighting. An example would by these stick on light set from Amazon.

Another quick fix that would help to create the right atmosphere is to add plants to the area. Plants will also add more fresh oxygen to the room. Along with boosting oxygen levels, plants also act as a natural air purification system.

Before you get too into decorating, first clear the area of all clutter. Remove anything that could lead you to get distracted while you're trying to workout. If you are the kind of person that likes to use fitness dvds/ videos make sure your TV or computer screen are positioned in the appropriate area.

A final addition to your workout area is adding mirrors. Mirrors are a great way to make sure that your posture is correct while working out. Using mirrors can quickly help you correct any mistakes your making during your workout.

Your home gym is your own area. Make it match your personality. Add motivational posters, fitness workout guides, before/after photos, or anything else that will make the area feel like your own.

Step 3: Get the Right Equipment

This is the fun part! You get to stock your gym with all the basic tools that you'll use to get fit! If you are not sure what you'll need, here is a list of basics:

You don't need a bunch of bulky and heavy machines to make a home gym. Some of the best workouts require only minimal equipment! Rather than having an expensive treadmill for cardio, you can get a even better workout with a jumprope! Don't feel overwhelmed with this list - you can start off small and work your way up to getting more equipment.

Once you have your exercise equipment, you'll want to organize it and store it for easy access. If you are using a shared area like a living room, look to clear out and set aside some closet space.

Step 4: Make a plan

Having the perfect home gym and right equipment is useless if you don't know what workouts to do or how to use it. You want to have a plan of action and consider committing to a workout program. Think about what kind of workout program you would enjoy. If you are not sure and would like to try a few different workout programs than Daily Burn would be a great program for you. They have easy to follow content and offer a complete 30 day free trail! If you like resistance training Bikini Body program would be right for you and if you are a yoga person try yogadownload.com for a wide variety of yoga classes! The bottom line is that there is something for everyone!

Step 5: Use your new gym!

Having a home gym won't do you any good it you don't use it! You need to keep yourself accountable and motivated. I like to play positive and up-beat music and inviting a friend over can also help you stay committed!
